In the new release of our encoder SRT Streamer PRO you can send the signal you are encoding over several uplinks at once. LTE, Ethernet, Starlink, a second WAN — whatever the PC actually has.

The split is yours to change. It can be aggregating bonding (share the load across links) or a full backup (a complete copy of the stream on a spare path). You switch that per uplink, without rebuilding the kit.

That turns an ordinary Windows PC into an encoding and bonding kit: capture, encode, and push contribution to the studio over every link you can plug in.

Is this SRT?

Short answer: no. SRT does have bonding, but it has no aggregating mode. You cannot, for example, split a 10 Mbps encode across five links at 2 Mbps each. Clients ask for that often. SRT does not do it.

So under the hood, bonding in SRT Streamer PRO is RIST.

RIST is an open specification from the Video Services Forum (VSF), with an open-source library (libRIST) and several independent implementations — including FFmpeg, VLC, GStreamer and OBS. It was designed for contribution over unstable, unmanaged networks, which is exactly the LTE / Starlink case.

That design sits on RTP — an old, well-proven protocol. The same RTP basis is what SMPTE 2022-7 sits on, and it is also how media is carried in SMPTE ST 2110. From an engineering point of view, RTP inside RIST is a sound choice, and bonding stays relatively simple because of it.

The studio side is any RIST-compatible receiver. One of them is SRTMiniServer.

On the Bonding tab you pick the NICs and set a Weight on each:

  • 1–5 — aggregating bonding. Traffic is shared in proportion. Two links at 1 and 2 → about 33% / 67%.
  • 0 — full backup. That link gets a complete copy of the stream, in parallel with the others.

Several streams from one PC

For example you can capture two SDI cameras or NDI streams then encode them, and send them to the studio. Each stream uses the uplinks you already set. Intel QSV and NVidia encoding supported.

The dashboard shows statistics for every stream: bitrate on LTE, Wi-Fi, Starlink, and a quality figure.
