SRT Mini Server

advanced tool for Accept / Convert / Route

Accept

  • Easy deployment: start accepting SRT signals within 5 minutes
SRT Mini Server is easy to install, has a clear interface and will allow you to receive a signal in just a few minutes (guide)

  • Up to 16 connections at same time
The number of channels you can receive depends solely on the power of your PC. SRT Mini Server is capable of handling up to 16 channels simultaneously, and this number can be adjusted in the settings
  • Compatible with all Hardware encoders
Our customers have successfully used the SRT Mini Server in conjunction with :
    • encoders from Haivision, Magewell, Kiloview etc
    • LiveU devices (see)
    • Blackmagic Web Presenter (see)
    • AJA Helo Plus
    • Panasonic AG-CX350 (yes, it supports SRT streaming)
    • JVC GY HC models. Return feed is also supported (guide)
    and others.
  • Listener mode: Single and Multi ports options
The server can receive the signal on a single port, using Stream ID to separate the streams, as well as on multiple ports if required by the sender.
  • Caller mode
The server supports Caller mode: this means that you can initiate a connection to a remote signal source. For example, if you need to receive a signal from a third-party content provider (more).
  • Proxy-mode for work without dedicated IP
The SRT Mini Server can receive the signal even if you don't have a dedicated IP or can't configure a firewall for port forwarding.
For example, if the PC with the server uses LTE connection or the corporate firewall blocks incoming connections. For this purpose SRT Mini Server has a special mode called "Proxy Mode"
  • HEVC / H 264 / MPEG 2, AAC / AC3 / MPGA, Interlace & Progressive
SRT Mini Server supports both modern codecs and codecs that are used exclusively in television. Since there are TV-companies among our clients, the server works perfectly with Interlace format and such fps as 59.94, etc.
  • Receive HLS / RTSP / RTMP links
In addition to the SRT protocol, our server can pull HLS/RTSP/RTMP(pull) streams from media servers. This is used if you need to quickly take media content from a third-party provider and send it to SDI or NDI for further work (guide). Media files are also supported.

  • Timecode sync support
When broadcasting from several cameras, the issue of their synchronization in Studio will inevitably arise. Our server can read Timecode and output already synchronized streams (more).
  • Loss-Less mode
By default SRT allows packet drops, which is indirectly regulated by the “latency” parameter (more)
In SRT MiniServer and our encoders we have implemented a special Loss-Less mode, which guarantees lossless data delivery. This mode is optionally activated in our encoders.
  • Bonding support
The server supports bonding mode: it can receive streams over several links and aggregate them into one. You need to use our program called BondingAgent on the encoder side. Our customers have successfully used this to transmit a signal to the studio via multiple LTE-connections and also with Starlink.
    Read more about bonding here.

Convert

  • Flexible conversion
The server can convert the received signal into the format you need:
    • change the frame size
    • change fps
    • convert Progressive to Interlaced or vice versa
  • SDI output
The server includes a module called SDI Out Addon. It allows you to send a signal to an SDI card. Flexible configuration allows you to choose in what format to send and which audio channels to use. It is also possible to specify backup lines in case the signal on the main line is lost.
The server supports SDI cards from such manufacturers as Blackmagic Design, AJA VideoSystems, Magewell, Bluefish444 and others.
  • NDI output
NDI is an IP protocol for video transmission, which is deservedly popular for local networking. Our server converts incoming SRT signal to NDI, which makes it possible to use this signal in any video mixer with NDI support (vMix, OBS, Tricaster etc).
We have post about SRT and NDI.
  • UDP Multicast
UDP multicast is indispensable if you need to quickly send content to a local network. For example to show a broadcast to the whole office. That's why we added the ability to convert incoming SRT stream to UDP multicast. One of the use cases is described here.
  • RTMP, File , Audio, HDMI outputs
The server has the option to transcode and send the stream to an RTMP server, such as YouTube, or transcode it to a file.
It is also possible to send the stream to HDMI. It is possible to send only audio stream, which is used by some clients together with Dante Virtual Soundcard.
In all cases it is possible to select specific audio channels, which is necessary for multilingual streams.

Route

SRT-stream routing is a unique functionality that allows easy two-way video streaming between many participants
  • Teleconference
The SRT MiniServer allows you to easily organize teleconferences between cities and countries. Each participant can receive streams from other participants. For more details see our post. On locations you can use free SRTStreamer Lite (see), and the core of the scheme will be SRT Mini Server.
  • Remote Expert
Together with our RemoteExpert app (see), you can easily organize the connection of an expert on air, with controlled quality.
  • Mobile reporters
Using a cell phone as a tool for mobile journalism is a trend, as the cameras of modern phones allow you to get a great picture. With our StreamToStudio (iOS) application, you can not only receive a stream from a reporter, but also give him a video signal from the studio (post)
  • Remote production: PTZ and Tally control
Stream routing is at the heart of remote control of PTZ cameras and Tally. Read more about this functionality of our server here
